Effective telesales scripts to sell through just one call.

Telesales  is a popular sales method today. Preparing a good sales script will help maximize sales effectiveness for businesses.

Developing a telesales script   is considered essential for telephone salespeople. This is simply because it outlines what to say and what to avoid to make a good impression on customers. From there, it makes it easier to convey the desired message to the customer.

An effective telesales script for you.

Many companies now have their own telesales teams. These teams help businesses sell products, provide customer service, schedule appointments, and exchange information. This method eliminates the need for face-to-face meetings between salespeople and customers. Furthermore, call costs are becoming increasingly cheaper thanks to the use of tools and virtual call centers. Therefore, besides these tools, what should telesales salespeople prepare to maximize their effectiveness?

Steps to building a telesales script

Step 1: Greetings and introductions

To make a good impression, you need an engaging and captivating opening. Telephone sales representatives should be relaxed and comfortable when customers answer the phone. Think of yourself as someone who can benefit the customer, not someone who can force them to buy a product.

A gentle smile and a friendly tone are essential when communicating. Remember to clearly state your name and the company name so customers can remember you. If you know the customer’s name beforehand, you can mention it in your introduction. You can use the following telesales script:

Example: Hi Mr. X, could I speak with you for a few minutes? I’m Y calling from company Z, which operates in the field of… I hope you can spare some time to chat with me.

If the customer agrees, continue the conversation. If not, respect their wishes and schedule a future time to discuss the matter.

Step 2: Identify the problem for the customer.

Show that you care about the customer and listen to their problems. The following scenario could be used:

For example: As far as I know, you are facing a problem… I don’t know the specifics. Could you please share more details so I can understand and offer the best solution?

When customers share their problems, it’s important to listen to find the root of the issue. Show genuine concern for their problem and a desire to solve it. Demonstrate that this is a common problem. You can even paint a bleak picture of what would happen if the problem continues to persist without a solution.

Step 3: How to solve the customer’s problem

When listening to customers’ feedback, show that you care about their problems. Then, advise them on the benefits and value you can offer. This will help customers understand that your product or service can solve their problem.

Present a reasonable solution to quickly win over the customer. During this time,  telesales agents  should keep their language concise and avoid creating barriers to customer action.

Step 4: State the value and benefits.

Highlight how the company’s products and services can effectively solve customers’ problems. Avoid mentioning price at this stage, as the focus should be on whether the customer has a need for the service. Furthermore, it’s crucial to understand customer information to determine if they require any financial assistance.

Furthermore, to avoid a monologue, incorporate some questions during the introduction for the customer to answer. This will make the conversation more interesting and increase interaction with the customer.

Example: Our company specializes in providing products…. We can help you… Product Z is…

You need to have an enthusiastic attitude and a decisive tone of voice. Show that you are someone who can take responsibility for the issues you discuss. Build trust with customers and encourage action.

Step 5: Finalize the transaction (order, time, location, cost)

For low-value items, customers may make a quick purchase decision. In this case, telemarketing salespeople need to ask for the customer’s address and information. However, for high-value items or those with difficult shipping requirements, such as finance or real estate, customers tend to hesitate and consider their options. In such cases, more consultation and contact are needed, or a face-to-face meeting may be necessary.

For example: I’m not sure what time this week, morning/afternoon, could I schedule a meeting with you for further consultation and discussion?

If the customer is busy or doesn’t agree,  the telesales representative  can flexibly arrange another meeting.

For customers who demonstrate a lack of budget, salespeople can use the following scenario:

For example: Our product Z normally costs… but during our customer appreciation/holiday period… we are offering a discount, bringing the price down to… and this offer is only valid this month.

Step 6: Handling Rejections

Customer objections are a common problem for telemarketers. It requires tactful handling to turn an objection into an agreement. There are several conversational scripts that can help you effectively handle customer objections.

Example: Thank you, I and some other customers used to think the same way as you. Could you tell me which product you’re comparing it to?  You can sign up for a free one-week trial of the software. It’s always better to experience all the benefits before making a decision.
